Title: "Vulnerabilities in some Data Link Layer Protocols"
Abstract:
Given the latest trends in broadband services providers to place into production
Layer-2 (L2) networks for the last mile realm, attacks focused at L2 services
might become more popular, inevitably affecting services in upper layers such
as network, transport and application, that trust on L2 services being operational.
This work concentrates on potential pitfalls in the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
-- a ubiquitous protocol that glues together a network of bridges interconnecting
segmented LANs -- and its successor the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP).
