Longitude: W 121° 45' 18.4''

Airports

Davis is about 20 minutes from Sacramento International Airport (SMF), about 75-90 minutes from Oakland International Airport (OAK), and about 90-120 minutes from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). If you own or timeshare a private plane, you can fly to the University Airport (EDU), as University of California, Davis is the only UC with its own airport.

Weather

Weather info is available here. Davis is often in the 40s during the day and 30s during the night, in January, and we do get rain. It hasn't snowed in Davis since 2002.

Accomodations

We have block reservations at two local hotels. Please call the Best Western Palm Court (530-753-7100) or the Aggie Inn (530-756-0352) directly and ask for the "GENI Security Workshop group rate" at either place. The Best Western Palm Court rates from $119-$149/night depending on room. Our Aggie Inn rates range from $89-$115 night. Our room blocks have been released, but you're still able to receive the conference rate by calling the group reservations coordinator directly. If you have not yet reserved a room, please call Darshana Nagar at 530-756-0910 x137 and ask about the "UC Davis rate for the GENI Workshop." If the two hotels mentioned above are booked, you might be in one of the other properties managed by this hotel group, but that's OK; they're all fairly close by.

Transportation

There are four ways to get to Davis from Sacramento Airport: car, shuttle, taxi, city bus, or private plane. If you are coming from the Bay Area, you might also consider the Amtrak Capitol Corridor route. Any are fine options.

  • The Yolobus (a city bus) costs $1.50, and takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
  • There are several door-to-door, shared-ride shuttles. Davis Airporter is $23 each way. Yolo Airporter might be slightly cheaper, but doesn't have its rates posted online. Supershuttle is at SMF, if you like national brands and/or Lincoln Town Cars.
  • Private ride taxis are available at Sacramento airport for $2.80+$2.40/mi.
  • The walk from the hotel to the workshop venue is about 15 minutes.
  • All the usual rental cars are available at SMF. Parking at the hotels is free. It's a 5–10 minute drive to campus.
  • To park on campus for free, please pick up a permit at the South Gate Visitor Information Booth on Old Davis Road, off of Interstate 80 (map here). They will be available for pickup beginning Wednesday, January 21. Hours are supposedly 7:30a-5p. Tell them that you are there for the GENI workshop. To park on campus, go to lot VP 47 or VP47A. Once parked, it is about a 5 minute walk from the campus parking lot to Kemper Hall.
  • Note: if you're returning a car to SMF, there's an ARCO (cash and debit only; no credit) right at the airport to refuel before returning the car.

Directions

Directions to campus and maps of campus are here. The conference is in Kemper Hall. Directions to the hotels is available via their web sites, linked above.
